PAINTED PAPER

I paint and print (with a gelli plate) tons of painted papers. I spend time creating all sorts of designs and textures to make the collage paper fun and interesting.

Book pages and sheet music create wonderfully interesting under layers - beyond textures, sometimes meaningful words or phrases remain visible in the final piece, I love this.

COLLAGE

I add collage to most of my artwork. I love the way it adds details and textures that I could never achieve with paint alone.

You can see, in the picture, how I lay out the torn paper to get a feel for how it will look before I start to paste the papers down (with matte medium). There is a lot of rearranging and playing throughout my process.

FINISHING

THE ARTWORK

I enjoy the process of choosing which papers to use and ripping them into pieces, placing them on top of a painted canvas, fiddling with how the colours and shapes play together and with the paint layer and finally adhering the pieces down to see the finished painting come together.

NAMING

THE ARTWORK

For each piece of artwork I spend time finding a perfect and meaningful title - it helps tell the story of the art.

Sometimes the name comes from little bits of texts in the artwork, or just the personality of the chicken! This piece is titled ‘Cookie, the emotional support chicken.’ On one of her feathers the words, ‘just keep on’ are visible. She is encouraging us to keep going.
